A dappled piebald dachshund is similar to the piebald, but there are dapple patterns in the piebald spots. Not to be confused with a Double Dapple, the dappled piebald will have ticking and usually has an even spot pattern.  AKC can not register a dappled piebald because this is a double pattern and AKC will only recognize a single pattern.  But these Dachshunds are still very beautiful puppies.

Double Dapples can have severe birth defects if breeding is done haphazardly - blind, missing or malformed eyes, deaf or partial deafness - breeding for double dapples should only be done with excellent knowledge of the breed as well as the lines involved in the potential breeding. Double Dapple is a pattern and can show up in any of the Dachshund colors.

Sable and Wild Boar Dachshunds

A true sable/wild boar will appear to be black/tan from a distance. The coat color is at the base of the hair fading into black tips from a distance. The dachshunds undercoat will usually be red, with a very heavy layer of black over the base coat color. (Sables are often mistakenly labeled when a dachshund has black hairs on back and neck over red color. Sable is an uncommon pattern. This is a pattern that can not be truly labeled until pup reaches 6 months of age. Many pups labeled sable/wild boar lose the black overlay and become simply red with no pattern.)
This pattern is most commonly seen in reds but may occur with other colors.
